Naturally, donation of real estate has to make sense financially for you, and for the Cru ministries you want to support. This doesn’t always add up for every property, but it can work on many.
In the 2018-2019 fiscal year, we generated $8 million in real estate proceeds to support various Cru ministries! A large portion of these funds happened to be designated to the Jesus Film Project according to the donor’s wishes. The Jesus Film calculates that these donations amount to 9,441,066 new believers!!!
One excellent way to handle the donation of property, and make sure you control how the proceeds benefit the ministries you choose, is to make the donation to your Great Commission Fund Donor Advised Fund (GCDAF).
The sale of an investment property will usually result in taxes as a result of the transaction. But a GCDAF can help you put those dollars into ministry instead of turning them over to the government.
Donation of property gives you a charitable giving tax deduction based on the fair market value of the property. It also takes the worry of property ownership off your shoulders: We work with local professionals to get the property ready to sell and provide for maintenance and marketing.
When the property sells, the proceeds go to build God’s kingdom through Cru ministries. You want to share the Good News, and this is a great way to do so.
As soon as Cru Foundation is in receipt of the deed, we take over the expenses, then expenses are deducted from the sale proceeds before they’re distributed to the ministries of your choice. Your responsibility for the property is over once the donation is made — but you retain the joy of giving the funds from the sale to the ministries you love.
